We drove more than 110km today to see a beach that's only about 7km from our Darwin home.
Wagait Beach is on the western side of Darwin Harbour on Cox Peninsula. Much of the hinterland in that area forms part of the recent Kenbi land claim settlement.
A small township exists with a population of 370 people, who are served by a regular 15-minute ferry from Cullen Bay to Mandorah Jetty.
There's a general store and a country club, but not much else.
We had a picnic near the jetty (pictured above) at the site of an old hotel, which closed in 2013 and was demolished a year later.
